The Insane Theory: Muhammad Ali was the greatest sports icon of the second half of the 20th century. He floated like a butterfly, stung like a bee, and didn't believe there was anything gay at all about that claim. They are all rigged. Its all about money and ratings. They want to make match ups interesting by setting up story lines with teams. Just look at the whole Tom Brady deflate gate bs. Gets away with cheating again. The nfl made it public so they can make money off it. All sports are entertainment. All these injuries happening are players getting. ALL professional sports championships are rigged. And not just rigged by referees (as the controlled opposition wants you to think) but rigged from the top to bottom with the assistance of select players and coaches on each team. Every Super Bowl you have ever watched has been rigged. Most playoff games and regular season games too.

Nfl, nba and mlb viewership were on a downward spiral. This year a lot of games came down to the wire in all three leagues. So much so that it seems fishy. I'm thinking they make the games purposefully exciting to keep people watching.

The only unarguable “rigged” game in modern sports history was 2002 game 6 lakers vs Kings

Nba was, but has appeared to have gotten a lot better. Despite what happened last night, nba typically has the best officiating

I used to accuse the nba of fricking with game flow on natl TV games. They take longer breaks and varying times in the game than do regional telecast. The breaks also vary in length. It hasn’t seemed as bad in the last 4-5 year

Sports aren’t rigged. However all sports leagues have outcomes and matchups that would make them the most money. That’s why Alabama, Duke, Lakers, etc seem to get all the calls. You’d be crazy to think otherwise.

I wouldn't say the NFL is rigged, but the NFL can steer games via the refs.

I don’t believe so
Though we do know the WCF in 2002 was intentionally influenced by officiating, and I’ve always suspected the same about the 2006 Finals.

Help me out with the subtle distinction between 'rig' and 'steer', please.
We all see shitty calls by the refs. They happen. I think we tend to remember the ones that go against our teams and usually forget about the ones that go our way.
But here's what I want to know:
Does the NFL gave a meeting every Tuesday morning to pick the next week's winners?
Is Vegas at that meeting to determine the final point spread or is that done in the wee hours of Sunday morning after the college games are complete?
Is there a guy at NFL HQ on Park Ave every Sunday afternoon watching a half dozen games simultaneously and communicating instructions to the referees during commercial breaks and at halftime?
I understand that a close game is better for viewership than a blow out. But is the marginal ad revenue on a more competitive game worth the risk of being exposed as the new Championship Wrestling and having your multi billion dollar business go down the shitter? It doesn't make sense to me.
